Not necessarily beautiful, but thought provoking on many levels. These are a few images captured by photographer Steven Meisel and featured in a 24-page spread of Italia Vogue's September issue. I find them to be quite shocking, yet I cannot refrain myself from staring at them.
do you think the point is that the models represent the gulf animals that actually got covered in oil during the spill? that line of thinking actually makes me not offended to look at them, but either way, pretty shocking and borderline inappropriate. Kinda glad it's Italy's Vogue and not the US version. that'd be a little too close to home.
I most definitely believe that the models represent animals covered in oil slick. It is very interesting how these models are portrayed in feathers and tattered clothing. If it helps, some of the "jewelry' was constructed from plastic pieces that washed up on the shore during the spill.

ReplyDeleteugh, I definitely didn't click on the pictures to enlarge them. so I did't notice the feathers and such.
ReplyDeleteturning fashion into political/social topics. I like.
plus, I would not have been surprised if PETA released these shots. They love the shock value.
